SUMMERS ARE A GREAT TIME TO DO AN INTERNSHIP OR GET VOLUNTEER HOURS!
The GNSHS Internship Office does not offer a summer program and we are unable to give credit for summer internship and volunteer hours. As a courtesy to the businesses we work with during the year we are occasionally able to help students find summer placements. However there is a limit to the number of available spots and they often fill early. Click here to access the current list: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1r82XT-8sPx2TTX7Gxu_QlkVKCDl9xf95b1SkfnddGbI/edit#gid=0 Access is limited to people signed into their GN School account. If you are a parent, please log in with your child to view the list.
We encourage students to use their summers wisely and have created this page to help you find a placement. Here are some suggestions and tips for finding a summer opportunity.

DOCUMENTING YOUR SERVICE HOURS
Please note that GNSHS does not have a community service requirement for graduation, however volunteering with local organizations is still encouraged. Click on the link below to access a sheet you can use to document your service for your own records. Please check with the internship office to see if your community service hours could potentially count towards internship credit.

There are many paid summer programs available that can be found through search engines like this one: www.teenlife.com/category/summer/summer-programs-new-york/

FINDING A PAYING JOB
Here are a few tips for finding a summer job:
1) Create a resume (click here if you need help getting started). Walk into any local business close to your home and tell them that you are looking for summer employment. Ask if you can leave your resume for the manager or fill out an application. You never know who might be looking for work. The more places you visit, the better your odds of finding something.
2) Ask family friends, neighbors, and relatives if they know anyone who is looking for help this summer. Networking is absolutely one of the most effective ways of finding employment!
3) Create a flyer with your name, contact information, and a brief description of the kind of work you're qualified for, and ask if you can post it at local doctor's offices, apartment buildings, community centers, supermarkets, or any other high traffic areas. Keep it concise, and include those little tear-off tabs at the bottom of the flyer with your contact information. This is a great way to find opportunities in babysitting, assisting senior citizens, tutoring, yardwork, or petcare.
4) Try using the following search engines:
CARE.COM: http://www.care.com/
SNAGAJOB: http://www.snagajob.com/
